Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage within the pulp of a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue located in the center of the tooth, containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.
During a root canal procedure, the dentist or endodontist removes the infected or damaged pulp from the tooth, cleans and disinfects the pulp chamber and root canals, and then fills and seals the space with a biocompatible material, usually gutta-percha, to prevent further infection.
Root canal is a routine dental procedure designed to alleviate pain and restore the health of a damaged tooth. This allows the patient to retain their natural tooth without the risk of ongoing sensitivity or pain.
Information About Root Canals
Root canal treatment is typically recommended when the pulp becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, trauma to the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. Symptoms of pulp infection or damage may include severe toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of the gums, or a pimple-like bump on the gums near the affected tooth.
By removing the infected or damaged pulp and sealing the tooth, root canal treatment can alleviate pain, save the tooth from extraction, and restore function and appearance to the affected tooth. After the root canal procedure, a dental crown may be placed over the tooth to protect it and restore its strength and appearance.
Our dental office uses a high-powered microscope for root canal treatments, significantly enhancing the precision and success of the procedure. The microscope provides a magnified and illuminated view of the tooth’s intricate internal structures, allowing our dentists to thoroughly clean and shape the root canals. This advanced technology ensures that even the smallest details are addressed, leading to more effective and long-lasting results. With the microscope, we can confidently eliminate infection and alleviate pain, ensuring your tooth remains healthy and free from sensitivity.
